We go through this world with many pains and trials to welcome us at many different turns. One of those pains is one that is not inflicted upon us, but instead the suffering of a loved one. Those whom we love will always feel pain, just as we do. They will be injured, they will get sick and they will be heartbroken. It is by the love the Holy Spirit has instilled within us that the suffering of others serves to hurt us as well. Just as the suffering of his servant burdened and hurt the centurion who came to Jesus.

The centurion who came to Jesus in Matthew 8 had a servant who was paralyzed and suffering greatly. This centurion begged Christ to heal his servant and to relieve his pain. When Jesus said he would come with him to heal the servant, the centurion told Jesus that he was unworthy to have the Son of God in his home and asked that instead, Jesus would use his authority to simply command his servant to be healed. Pleased with the centurion’s faith, Jesus did so and the servant was healed.

We long for and pray for the healing of those close to us, but at times it may seem hopeless for them. But keep in mind, child of God, that the Lord Jesus holds authority over all things. As we keep the faith and worship the Lord for his majesty and excellence, He shall be faithful to protect and take care of his children and heal those whom we love.
