Within Jesus lies the power to work against the natural order of reality to bend existence itself to the whim of God. Jesus displays this supernatural authority over the ears of a deaf man in Mark Chapter 7. The people brought before Jesus a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment. Unable to hear or properly speak, this pitiful soul was seeking help from the Son of God. Jesus placed his fingers into the man’s ears and commanded them to be opened. As a result, the man’s ears were opened and he could hear. His speech impediment was also gone and he could speak clearly and concisely.
The scriptures describe the people’s reactions very clearly and say that they were “astonished beyond measure”. Praise God for His unimaginable and unrivaled strength and authority, for when the people witnessed His miraculous showing of power over affliction, it was impossible to even measure their amazement. The might of God is something to behold and be in awe of, for when we see the power of the Lord on display, He is worthy of all praise and worship.
He is the one who formed the Earth and everything in it. He is the one who breathed the breath of life into our lungs. He is the one who redeems and saves to the uttermost those who draw near to him. The Lord is able and willing to heal any and all ailments and afflictions. And as He does, He is worthy of the worship of those whom He heals. Let us worship and be astonished beyond measure, Church, for Christ is alive and is worthy.
