It is not uncommon for a Christian to doubt his salvation at some point in his spiritual journey.  Have you worried that something is wrong with you because questions and doubts have come to your mind?  If so, take heart, because you are not alone, and because the Bible has a remedy for such worries.  Causing Christians to doubt their salvation is one of the strongest plays in Satan’s playbook.  While God is not the author of confusion, but the author of clarity and assurance, Satan is the exact opposite.  If he can cause a believer to doubt, Satan knows the believer will not rest in God’s promises, he will not trust God for daily provisions, and ultimately, he will not be used by God in the way He intends.  How can a Christian pray in faith and unbelief if he has questions about the genuineness of belonging to God?  This is Satan’s goal for your life: to keep your faith from growing and to rob you of the joy and peace Christ desires for you.

Can you know with full assurance that you have been born again and belong to God?  The biblical answer is a resounding, yes!  First John 5:13 says, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”  So how can a believer experience assurance of salvation?

First, take God at His word.  It is not God’s will for you to worry and doubt that you have been genuinely born again.  Scripture is written that you would have full confidence that you have eternal life.  Second, trust more so in Christ and in what He has done for you on the cross than trusting in yourself or the things you have done for God.  We cannot save ourselves, and no amount of good works nor good intentions will rescue us from sin. Only a faith in the saving work of Christ can bring true salvation.

Lastly, make God’s Word part of your daily routine.  The only type of faith that grows is a faith that is grounded in Scripture.  Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”  If your faith is weakened because of doubts, the remedy is to feed your faith Scripture, and as your faith grows, so will your assurance of God’s promises.  If you are someone who needs victory in the assurance of your salvation, I would love to meet with you and pray with you.  To schedule a time to speak with me, send me an email to pastorchadroberts@gmail.com.
