The Old Testament bears the account of a teenage boy who stood before a man
9 feet 9 inches tall. The man’s name was Goliath who was a giant from the
Philistine army, a seasoned warrior from his youth. The armor he wore weighed
in at 125 pounds and the head of his spear was 16 pounds. This giant was
taunting and mocking the king and army of the Israelites, seeking to fight one
man from among Israel. (I Samuel 17)

A Boy Who Knew His God
No one from Israel’s army would go out to do combat with the giant for “they
were all dismayed and greatly afraid” and that included King Saul. But there
stood a boy by the name of David who said, “For who is this uncircumcised
Philistine, that he should taunt the armies of the living God”? David knew his
God and His God was the “Living God”. For as a shepherd, David attacked a
lion and on another occasion attacked a bear who had taken a lamb from his
father’s flock; he rescued the lambs by killing both the lion and the bear. And
David told King Saul, “Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this
uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has taunted the armies
of the living God.” And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of
the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this
Philistine.”

A Boy Who Knew His Covenant – And Spoke
Some today would call David arrogant and full of pride. No, David was neither;
rather He was full of faith for he KNEW His God and his Covenant!! Faith knows
and faith speaks! “Faith is the Assurance of things hoped for and the Conviction
of things not seen”. David knew -therefore he spoke, David had assurance and
conviction therefore -he spoke! This is faith in action. All of this faith came from
his relationship with Father God and His Word. David had experienced God’s
protection from the lion and the bear. David had Covenant with God, David
understood his Covenant and walked in it. David knew that Goliath had No
covenant, that is why he called him an “uncircumcised philistine”. Those who
have Covenant with Father God are circumcised. Old Testament circumcision
was found in the flesh of men, but under the New Testament, circumcision is
found in the hearts of born again men and women.(Rom.2:28-29) Covenant is a
binding agreement between two parties sealed by Blood. So in reality, Goliath
was not just facing a teenage boy, but because of Covenant Goliath was also
facing Almighty God; a bad place to be for an uncircumcised Philistine! Our
Covenant today was established and sealed by the Blood of the Lord Jesus.
Because of Covenant, what belongs to one also belongs to the other. In
essence, what belonged to Father God belonged to David also. David was not
attacking Goliath in his strength but in the power of the Blood Covenant he had
with Father God. That is why David said to Goliath, “You come to me with a
sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of
hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted. David again
speaks to Goliath from the knowledge of his Covenant with Almighty God, “This
day the Lord will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and
remove your head from you, and I will give the dead bodies of the army of the
Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all
the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may
know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the
Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.” David ran toward Goliath with a
sling, five stones and with his Covenant keeping God.

Faith Trumps Fear – Because of Covenant
Because we live in the earth there will always be giants taunting and mocking us
and our God, but there is good news for every believer today; we have an
Eternal Covenant with Almighty God through the Blood of Jesus our Lord. When
we know our Covenant (the Word of God) faith will rise and we will put the
enemy(Giant) to flight! Our Covenant declares, “For God has not given us a spirit
of fear but of power, love and sound mind”. Our Covenant declares “greater is
He who is in you than he who is in the world”. Our Covenant declares, “I can do
all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Knowledge of God’s Word brings
light and drives out fear. Declare the Word of God out of your mouth and your
faith will trump your fear. Fear is a spiritual force and the spiritual force of faith
will trump it and defeat it every time. Faith believes God’s Word and speaks it.

Speak to the Giant – Speak to the Mountain
You can speak your fears and give place to the devil or you can speak the Word
of God and put Satan under your feet – the choice is yours. Jesus said in Mark
11:23 “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast
into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is
going to happen, it will be granted him. That is exactly what a ruddy handsome
teenage boy did, he faced the mountain/giant who stood before him and the
army of Israel. David spoke to the giant by the word of His Covenant and took
the head off that man that day! The scripture says, “Those who Know their God
shall be mighty and do exploits”. So I exhort you, be strong in the Lord and in
His Word -speak to that Giant/Mountain. Tell that Giant in the Name of JESUS
-“you are defeated for I have Covenant and my God has given me the victory
through Jesus Christ my Lord”!! IICor.2:14 Great power is in your mouth- speak to
the giant/mountain and watch it fall in Jesus Name.
