Is Christ comfortable around you? Ephesians 3:17 gives us a unique insight on our relationship with Christ. Paul writes, “So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith…” Dwell comes from two Greek words meaning down and to inhabit a house. It is the idea of staying permanently somewhere. In other words, is Christ at home in your heart and life?
Too many Christians compartmentalize their lives. We have our work, home, social, and even church life. Too often, our actions and attitudes depend upon the box we’re in. If we are around the things of God, then we act a little more Christian. If we are around the things of the world, we act like the world.
According to Ephesians 3:17, Christ should always be comfortable within us no matter where we are or what we are doing. So let us examine ourselves. Is Christ comfortable with your thought life? Is He comfortable with the conversations you’re having at work? Is He comfortable with what’s on your phone, tablet, or browser history?
If this is an area you need growth in, continue on with Paul’s thinking through verse 21. Welcome Christ into each compartment of your life. Do not separate his Lordship, or in other words, do not keep Him out of any of the rooms of your heart. Make Him welcome and He will fill you with all of His fullness. You will be strengthened by the power of His glorious might, but most of all, He will be at home in your heart and life.
