“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14).  As believers we are to be led by Holy Spirit and He leads us most of the time by an inward witness, an impression, an inward knowing. Look what Romans 8:16 says,“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” The Spirit of God who indwells us witnesses to us that we are children of God. In the same way, the Spirit of God will witness in us about the decisions and directions we’re to take in life. As mentioned before, follow your peace but also don’t violate your conscience, because your conscience is the voice of your born again spirit. Your spirit knows things your head doesn’t know!! The reason your spirit knows those things is because your spirit has been joined to the Holy Spirit and Holy Spirit knows all things (I Cor.6:17).

Buy a gallon of milk
A young man went to a Wednesday night Bible study, and the pastor was teaching on
being led by Holy Spirit. About 10 p.m., the young man was driving home wondering if God still leads and speaks to people, so he prayed, “God, if you still speak to people, speak to me. I will listen and obey.” As he drove he had a strange thought to stop and buy a gallon of milk. He shook his head and said out loud, “God is that you?” He heard nothing in reply. Again there was the impression to buy a gallon of milk.

The young man thought about young Samuel in the Old Testament who didn’t recognize the voice of God. So he said, “Okay, God, in case that is you, I will buy a gallon of milk.” That didn’t seem like a big deal, because he could always use the milk, so he stopped and bought a gallon and drove toward his home. As he drove upon Seventh Street, he again felt an urge, “Turn down that street.” He drove past the street but felt he must go back, so he turned around and drove down Seventh Street. He drove several blocks when suddenly, he felt he should stop. He pulled over and looked around. He was not in the best part of town and most of the homes around were dark. Again, he sensed something, “Go and give the milk to the people in the house across the street.” He started to get out of the car but sat back into the seat. “Lord, this is insane. The people are asleep and if I wake them up, they are going to get mad, and I will look stupid.” Again, he felt he should go and give the milk.

Finally, he opened the door, “Okay God, if this is You, I will go to the door and I will give them the milk. If you want me to look like a crazy person, okay. I want to be obedient. I
guess that will count for something, but if they don’t answer right away, I am out of here.”

He walked across the street and rang the bell and heard noise inside. Aman’s voice yelled out, “Who is it? What do you want?” Then the door opened and a man in a t-shirt and jeans stood there and asked, “What is it?” The young man thrust out the gallon of milk, “Here, I brought this to you.” The man took the milk and rushed down a hallway. Then from down the hall came a woman carrying the milk toward the kitchen. The man followed her holding a crying baby. Tears steamed down the man’s face, as he began speaking and half crying, “We were just praying. We had some big bills this month and we ran out of money. We didn’t have any milk for our baby. I was just praying and asking God to show me how to get some milk.” His wife in the kitchen yelled out, “I ask Him to send an Angel with some. Are you an Angel?”

The young man reached into his wallet and pulled out all the money he had on him and put it in the man’s hand. He turned and walked back towards his car as tears streamed down his face. He knew that God still answers prayers. Because this young man was willing to be led by Holy Spirit and look foolish, he was used of God to be the answer to a family’s prayer.

Being Led by Holy Spirit- by doing what know to do
In Part One, I shared how Holy Spirit led us to Bible school in Oklahoma. We knew we were to go, but there was a problem – we had a wrecked car and no money. So Debbie and I agreed in prayer according to Matt.18:19. We knew the Lord heard our prayer and would meet our needs, so we started packing as if we had all the money we needed. We hadn’t asked anyone for money but people heard we were going to Bible school and they gave us money. We fixed our car and arrived in Tulsa with $80.00 and no credit cards.

We then paid $20 to a home locator company and set out looking for a duplex in south Tulsa, but couldn’t find the address. We stopped and asked a man (Blaine) if he knew the address we were seeking. He was mowing the grass of the duplex he owned. He told us he would help us after he finished mowing/raking his grass. It was almost dark outside, so we jumped out of our car and helped Blaine finish mowing/raking his grass, and he showed us his duplex, which was for rent. However, it wasn’t the one we were directed to by the locator company. We didn’t have enough money to rent anything. Blaine rented his duplex to us, even though we didn’t have the money. And he helped Debbie get a job, which she kept up to the time our son was born. We were operating in faith, doing all we knew to do following Holy Spirit. If we had been led by our circumstances we would have never left our hometown of Kingsport Tennessee.

If you are going to follow Holy Spirit, it is going to require you to operate
in faith, so ask in prayer for Holy Spirit to guide you, and claim God’s Word from
Romans 8:14,16; Psalms 32:8; and Psalms 37:23. You will find an adventure
awaits you!
